Fort
Sauerkraut
Fort Sauerkraut was constructed on
the hill west of the St. John Cemetery in November, 1892 when it was
reported that Indians bent on mischief had "broken out" and
everybody should be on guard and defend themselves. The scare turned out to
only be a rumor and the fort was never called into active use again although
it stood for many years as a grim testimonial of the days of the Indian
scare. The fort was rebuilt during August of 2004 by volunteers of the
Hebron community. This project was under the direction of the Hebron
Business Club.
